first release of 2008 on it's way!

woot! Gobs and i put the finishing touches on our track last night and it's off to Ruffage at PureFocus for mastering! i'm really excited to hear it played at Blak this weekend. it'll be the first time since being back in toronto that i've heard one of my tracks played out and the first time in a long time that i've actually been to a club. generally i avoid leaving my comfy techno-bubble but this weekend i'm hoping to make an exception.

next production project i have on the go is putting together a remix of Gobby's track and it looks like i'm not going to be the only one repping the zombie booty. last night Gobs mentioned some pretty heavy hitters that are also looking to get in on the remix action. i don't want to spoil any surprises, but i will say that i'm really interested to see what some of these remixes are going to sound like. as for my own take on the tune, i can only promise that it will be dirty, funky, and really high energy. i've got some ideas for several elements that will take advantage of the new VariOS as well. just need to get some more technical/configuration issues out of the way before i can fully integrate it into the studio setup and i'm hoping to get the majority of that sorted out this weekend.

also on the horizon: i have (finally) started putting together my new studio mix. it's been a long time in the making mainly because i have been putting a lot of effort into finding the innarweb's finest unheard and up and coming tracks, as well as some familiar favorites. also i'm planning on upping the "density" of the sound, using some new techniques i have figured out in Ableton to basically make the entire thing one huge remix. i'm feeling really positive about moving from turntables to midi-controlled Ableton sets. it's a lot more work to put a set together but it allows me way more flexibility and i can do things that would normally require 10 turntables and 15 arms. the trick i'm finding is knowing when to say "that's enough layers" because having more than 4 or 5 simultaneous tracks and loops in the "mash up mix" at any given time can get pretty cluttered. at any rate, i'm hoping to have the mix finished within a few weeks. i'm taking my time on it because i'm hoping to have a couple of my own tracks completed so i can drop them into the mix as well.

that's it for now! stay tuned for more updates and definitely some fresh downloads coming your way soon!
