well, the VariOS is up and running. it's still not fully integrated into the studio but i've solved most of the big technical challenges. i've managed to get audio into the machine, process it, and get it back into Logic. now it's time to tweak the technical details to get the best sound possible.
also, control maps are still a big issue. i haven't even scratched the surface with mapping my reMOTE to all the functions in Logic, Ableton, and the VariOS. i like having physical control surfaces to use to tweak parameters in the sound. i guess it comes from my background of playing real instruments and "jamming". generally speaking i almost never actually record a performance and keep all the 'nuances' in the recording. usually i will record something and then go in and program over it with perfect automation curves and quantized timing. but i find for idea generation it's a lot more fun and flexible to be able to fool around with all the parameters until something jumps out at me.
hopefully this weekend i will have the time to fine tune the setup. it's hard to set aside time to do all the studio tweaking necessary to get the equipment running smoothly because when i sit down and have to make the choice between writing a track and wrestling with technical stuff i usually end up opting to be creative. the down side is until i actually get all the details ironed out, creativity happens slowly.
what i actually need is one extra day of the week. if we could somehow arrange that it would be great.
