so this is the beginning of my week-long holiday, although 'holiday' may be an innappropriate term given the amount of prep work i need to do to get ready for the move. i've been debating as of late on how much notice i should give my work. i'm pretty sure i only need to give 4 weeks notice, which would mean i would pretty much need to let them know i was leaving about a week after i find out whether i get my full time permanent contract. i'm afraid if i tell them before that they will not hire me on and i'll be out of a job for the month of may (which is quite a big chunk of cash to be giving up). on the other hand i'd really like a decent reference and i don't want them to think i've been intentionally hiding the fact that i'm planning to move this whole time (even though i have been doing exactly that) and waiting until i'd 'suckered' them into hiring me before basically telling them i'm leaving them (probably wouldn't be great context for asking for a reference letter).
also there is the issue that i've made a lot of good friends there and while i've told some of them what my plans are i just don't want to tell too many people before i let the company know because i don't want them to find out from someone else. i think no matter what i do some people are going to feel a little put out. also i'm going to really miss some of those people and i'd like to have more than 4 weeks in which to plan some farewell activities...
i guess i'll wait and give it a bit more thought before i make any decisions.
