the bank i work for in it's infinite wisdom has a policy where they send out letters telling people about their charges all together on the last day of the month. this means that for the first week or so of the following month we get innundated with complaint calls featuring every variety of excuse, begging, irate angry yelling, or any other method by which someone will attempt to weasel out of paying bank fees.
to top it all off, some fucking 60 minutes style program on tv called 'watchdog' or something has decided that the current focus of their consumer advocacy crusade is, yep you guessed it, bank fees. so they ran a story saying that it is illegal for banks to charge fees. all banks in the uk have free banking, you only get charged a fee when you go over your overdraft limit. this is all covered very clearly in the terms and conditions of the account (not to mention makes perfect common sense). you would not believe the accusations that people make though "i heard that you have to give me all my fees back" "the tv said that bank fees are illegal" "i could have you arrested for putting fees on my account" etc... no mention of the fact that these people are basically stealing money from their bank by going overdrawn without asking first. people don't realize that all that's going to happen is banks will do away with fees, but also not let you go over your overdraft which will totally fuck you over if you have no money. that and they'll probably start charging monthly fees for the service instead, which screws everyone including the people who have no problem keeping their account in the black. i hate this species sometimes.
ok... it's friday... i think i can make it through the day.
